What inspired you to launch your own website?
I was writing horoscope columns and articles for small local newspapers and thought I should put them on a website and use it for advertising.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
Two years ago. Celestial Directions. Only one ever.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It is a name I used for my business. I feel we are directed by the heavens.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
It's not full of hype. I'm affordable and operate in the real world mostly. I've done some readings for people by phone using Paypal, and will do more if people respond. I'm one person and do not have a phone business as such, because I also do other work, and am not always beside my telephone.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
Writing an Astrology book is one of my goals, as is becoming known in a greater geographical area so that I can make a living doing Astrology. I aim at traveling more once my son graduates from high school and moves out. Currently I am somewhat trapped in one place due to my parental duties, but my career plan is to be a full time traveling Astrologer.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
It's not much of an investment, since I've done Astrology forever, have a mobile business license locally and my daughter made my website. I am becoming more well known. I've done some events outside of Kamloops that were quite profitable.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
Unlimited development budget for development? I'd pay my daughter to upgrade the website, hire a chauffeur and publicist.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I need business to pick up. It's not the sort of thing that would skyrocket, and I don't think I'd have to worry. If I got six days of work per week I'd be happy.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
People contacting me for appointments and then not showing up.
What has been your biggest challenge?
People not understanding what Astrology really is and what it can tell you. This is why I'm going to write more articles than horoscopes. Education. I have also done classes through Parks and Recreation on this very subject.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Putting ads on websites like this.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I get lots of compliments on my writing but not much in the way of paying business.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I'm going to upgrade and change it at some point, but it'll be similar. I'm not running a telephone psychic business, nor will I do so. I'd like to keep it an informative site that advertises my services.
What is the difference between an Astrologer and a Psychic?
Astrology is based on the planets and their signs and positions at the exact time and place of your birth. It is accurate and informative. Psychics may or may not be good, or accurate...or they may be. They do not base their readings on anything but their impressions. A birth chart will give an accurate depiction of potential and transits will tell what is going on in someone's life, and what will go on in future.
