Please give us a short summary of your website?
Forensic Astrology is the art of using Horary and Birth Charts in combination to determine the nature of events as they occurred in unsolved crimes and missing persons cases. I have over 30 years experience in Astrology, both Forensic and in general.
What inspired you to launch your own website?
I wanted to show the value of Astrology in this kind of work. Police are open to the use of Psychics and I was hoping to add something to this process. I think I'm doing a valuable service. Maybe I'll help find someone or solve a mystery. That would be awesome.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
2003; A small ecommerce site for selling electronics.
How did you decide on a name for your website?
It is the name of the practice: Forensic Astrology
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
There aren't many other ones like it. It is a first in the field. I haven't seen anyone else solving crimes with Astrology. They might be out there, but there can't be many.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
At the material level, I want to keep it for possible future income. But my higher goal is to reach large numbers of people and open their eyes. To change the view of Astrology and the Psychic world, in general. This is a big goal, I know. But if I can just reach people, teach them something, help them or move them, I've done something worthwhile.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
Lots of work for pennies. No money out of pocket so far.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
I would buy advertising on other sites, perhaps build a bigger site on another service and buy hosting. Develop complimentary (linking) sites for forums, interactive stuff like videos, polls, etc.. and reach out into other Psychic areas as well.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
Yes and No. I can do the work with the site. Anything offline would be hard for me to manage.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
Not much cost... I've been careful because I'm very limited in funds. But the headaches have been MANY. Lots of learning, searching, working, endless hours of figuring out how to do things with the site. The actual chart work is easy compared to building and advertising the site.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Advertising. I have some traffic (2300 so far) but I need real interest to make a difference and to possibly make a few bucks from the ads and links. Although web design and options are complicated, it's much harder to actually get people to come.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
Google, Yahoo and blog directories. Some of the victims I profile have become famous and this drives traffic when people search on their names. My site comes up as the second or third entry on the first page of Google and Yahoo when these names are searched. This has been the best.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
I thought I had a great idea and a plan that would work. It turns out a lot of the advice I got in the beginning was bogus. So it turned out to be much harder than I thought it would be. Honestly, I thought it would be a part time thing.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I have run the site since last summer (almost a year) and I plan to keep it until my hunger drives me to work full time. Even then, I think I'd keep it going.. just not as tricked out.
