What inspired you to launch your own website?
I came up with the idea to write horoscopes, shared them with all my friends and they thought it was a great idea to share them with the world.
When did you launch your first website, and what was it?
My first website was launched in 2001. I sold personalized children's books and did quite well at it. I've also had websites for printing services and craft supplies. And I currently have another website designed to offer people legitimate paid online surveys and avoid scams, called SurveyMoneyMakers.com
How did you decide on a name for your website?
I wanted to re-create horoscopes as we know them. I wanted to offer insightful predictions, but with a twist. My husband came up with the new zodiac symbols and we went from there to call it Zany Zodiacs.
What makes your website different from other, similar offerings?
Zany Zodiacs offers a new age twist for an age old hobby. You get a new zodiac symbol based on your personality and astrological zodiac sign. We offer free horoscopes based on intuit and psychic abilities and we also have MySpace graphics available so you can share your Zany Zodiacs symbol with the rest of the world.
What is your eventual goal? (To sell it, keep it for income, secure a book or other mainstream media deal?)
I intend to keep it and generate income from ad revenue. I also have a goal to offer the free weekly, wacky horoscopes to syndication. Reprint rights are also available for purchase for any publication.
How does your investment of time and money balance against your success?
I have just begun this website, so it's hard to judge at this point. I expect Zany Zodiacs to be very interesting to many people, on many levels. Our advice is insightful and entertaining. With the available MySpace graphics, word of Zany Zodiacs should spread rapidly. I have committed to writing a new horoscope each week, so the two should counterbalance as time progresses and more people visit the website.
If you had an unlimited development budget for development, how would you change your site?
If I had an unlimited development budget, I would immediately place some of the ideas that I have for expansion, including, but not limited to, offering expert advice from a clan of psychic and intuit friends, more in-depth astrological reports centered around the Zany Zodiacs profiles and creation of web widgets.
If your site got really big, really quickly, would you be able to keep up with the demand?
I am prepared for traffic to flow in a constant motion. I am ready and able to handle as many people who can click on the site, signup for weekly horoscope emails and copy MySpace graphics to their pages to share with the world.
What unexpected costs and headaches have you had to deal with?
I have had no unexpected costs, but I'm having trouble with my email signup form. I'm trying to integrate it so it looks like the Zany Zodiacs site, but I'm missing a comma somewhere, so for now, the signup screen is generic and doesn't match the Zany Zodiacs site.
What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is advertising on a small budget and getting word out to people that Zany Zodiacs is the greatest new horoscope site ever! I feel, though, once people know about it, a steady stream of traffic will maintained.
What method has been most successful for promoting your website?
No one method has redeemed itself as being most successful yet. I've simply been trying to plaster my URL to as many places as will allow me to do so.
How has running your website differed from your expectations?
So far, things are running as smoothly as expected.
How long have you run the site already, and how long will you continue to keep it up if you don't enjoy big gains in traffic, income or popularity?
I expect to enjoy big gains in traffic, income and popularity very soon. I will persist until that is the case. I have only had the site up for a short time, so I'm waiting-and-seeing just how rapidly Zany Zodiacs is going to grow.
How do you come up with Zany Zodiacs horoscopes?
I have the ability of an intuit, which, by definition, is 'to know, sense or understand.' I have developed this ability, along with other psychic gifts, and in consulting with other psychic friends, we can pinpoint specific scenarios that each astrological sign may face in the coming week.
